A Forklift truck is basically a powered industrial truck used to lift and transport materials with the first modern forklift adapted during the 1960s. It is used in more or less every manufacturing and warehousing operations.

For Lift Truck Driver Information

First of all there is no way you should be driving a fork lift truck unless you have been fully trained and given permission. The minimum age for a fork lift truck driver is 17 years old and in the construction industry it is 18 years old. Its advised that the employer makes sure their fork lift truck drivers are fully fit and healthy to use them by having a medical. From the age of 40 – 65 years old they should have medicals at 5 yearly intervals and when over the age of 65 years old they should have a medical every year. It is also advised that in all cases after an accident or sickness absence of more than one month or after a shorter period that they should have a medical to make sure they are safe to operate the vehicle.

What does the medical involve?

There is a questionnaire involved where it will ask you about health issues and your work. This medical is a more hands on approach and will involve having a vision screening test, Blood pressure, Balance test and a Whisper test. Overall it will take about 30 mins.
